Chess AuditionsOpen Calls - Tues 1/30, Wed 1/31 & Thur 2/1 - 3:45 - 5:00 pm Sign up for a 5 minute slot on one of these days Prepare 1 minute of a song in the style of show (list of similar shows) Include link to backing track on audition form Backing track should not include vocals (no sing along) Arrive early to audition time to check in You will sing for director and musical director Callbacks - Mon 2/5, Tues 2/6 & possibly Wed 2/7- 3:45 - 6:00 pm If needed, you may be asked to return to a 2nd, 3rd audition If called, you will be asked to sing and/or read from the show Open Dance Call - TBD (either 2/5, 2/6 or 2/7) You will learn and perform a short dance combination or two ***Please note - Unexpected absences from rehearsals have become something of an issue. If you audition and are cast, please make sure that you are making a commitment to the show. We can work around a few pre-arranged absences, but they need to be few and pre-arranged. Few, if any, conflicts with dress rehearsals and/or performances will be acceptable. RolesFREDDIE - Rock tenor (to C). American chess champion. Arrogant and temperamental, but a genius; his chess playing revolutionary. We need to see his artistry along with his danger and his obsessiveness.
FLORENCE - strong belt voice (to E). Frederick’s chess “second.” Clever, theatrical, touching with a fire inside her. ANATOLY - Baritone (to G sharp). Russian chess champion. Unexpectedly charming. An intelligent, feeling, passionate man. MOLOKOV - Bass (down to F sharp). Russian. Intellectually formidable. Anatoly’s chess “second" but probably KGB (Russia's CIA).Actor that sings well. ARBITER - rock high baritone (up to A). International businessman/person. Smooth/slick, but with a temper. SVETLANA - strong belt voice. Anatoly’s wife. Domestic, wholesome, homey. A dramatic contrast to Florence - not a contemporary cosmopolitan woman. WALTER - Bass-Baritone (down to G sharp). US marketing agent. Seemingly respectable, trustworthy. Actor that sings well. YOUNG FLORENCE: Young version of Florence (may look for nonHS, if can't find HS that plays that young) VOCAL ENSEMBLE*: Large chorus of very strong singers/actors DANCE ENSEMBLE*: Small group of strong, versatile dancers *It is possible that some students may be cast in both ensembles |
