Paul Reams

​Class of '98

Once a Highland Player; always a Highland Player! Paul (Mr. Reams) is now one of the teachers/directors at Helix. After beginning his teaching career in New York, he returned to Helix and is teaching Theater (slowly pushing Osborn out) and English. He lives with his wonderful wife, Amy, and their two awesome children, Lucy and Gideon.

Lainie Alfaro

Lainie is a journalism major at Point Loma Nazarene University and just wrapped up an internship at NBC 7 for the summer. When she graduates, Lainie hopes to become a reporter for a local news publication or a producer for broadcast news. Pablo is currently one year away from getting his undergrad degree at Carnegie Mellon University. Receiving a BFA in Drama with a specialization in Lighting Design, Pablo hopes to become a freelance lighting designer and assistant/associate in the Broadway or Regional theatre network as the next step in his career. Geraldyn, better known as Geri Berry, works as an Inmate Supervisor at Richard J Donovan Correctional Facility. She currently owns a food blog dedicated to delicious must-try eateries all around San Diego named, “Berry Tasty.”

Daniela (Brady) Doughty

​Class of `11

Daniela now lives in Sonoma County with her husband Kevin and daughter Maya. Fun Fact: Daniela met Kevin when they competed against each other on the speech team (He went to Mount Miguel) and they have been together ever since. Daniela is now a 3rd grade teacher and loves putting on plays with her own class!

Amanda Chase

After various stints in Pennsylvania and Senegal, Amanda now lives in Queens, New York City. She currently works in direct mail fundraising for nonprofits and takes advantage of all the free live performances that she can.

Unfortunately, Michael hasn't acted since Grossmont College, but he was in an AWESOME play by an Irish playwright, Martin McDonagh, called The Pillowman. Today, Michael works as a process server.

Rilyn continues her love of theatre as an actor, choreographer and teacher. Craving a change of scene, her husband McKay and wonderful pup Charles Wallace packed up their things and moved to Boston, Massachusetts. She is so excited to see where life will take her.

Danny is a Production Designer and Asst. Manager of Scenic Fabrication at Universal Studios Hollywood. He also met his future husband at Universal when he was working in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter and was designing all of the Christmas décor for Hogsmeade Village!

Kendall went to USD before moving all the way to Washington, DC, where she is currently a grad student at Georgetown getting her Master's in history. She hopes to work in museums and move back to the west coast at some point. She still sings and performs in her apartment between readings for class.

Once a Scottie, Always a Scottie! J.D. is a rising senior at Carnegie Mellon University studying Lighting Design and Sound Design. Their mascot is also a Scottish Terrier and they have a bagpipe program, go figure. He has designed and assisted professionally across the country including locally at The Old Globe. Jenna lives in San Diego with her husband (AJ), daughter (Lincoln) and two cats (Tomcat Jefferson & Aaron Purr). She is a Senior Producer of Events and Live Shows and also choreographs for the San Diego Gay Men’s Chorus and New Village Arts - dance is still her passion!

Grace Lehman
Class of `16

Grace graduated with a Bachelors in Theatre: Design and Technical Production and has certificates in Human Resource Management from Cornell and UCSD. She is currently working in HR and is also a Teaching Artist with the La Jolla Playhouse. There, she leads a program that teaches vocational skills through tech theatre and design basics to incarcerated youth.

Matt Lescault-Wood

Class of `01

Matt's misspent youth was occupied by designing sound for local theaters while moonlighting as an actual person. He designed over 100 shows, and managed to find time to sleep on occasion. He was the Sound Supervisor at the San Diego Repertory Theater for a number of years, and is currently the Head Sound Tech for the White Theater at the Old Globe. He somehow convinced a wonderful person to marry him, and they now hoard books together.

​Class of `10

After Helix, Kevin got his BA in Theatre from CSU Bakersfield (which has a surprisingly great theatre program), but decided the actor life wasn't for him and earned an MBA from SDSU. In 2015, he earned his master's, got married, had a kid, and started his career in Arts Marketing, spending time in the marketing departments at The Old Globe and San Diego Repertory Theatre. In 2021, he and his family moved to Bakersfield, where Kevin is now the Program Manager for the Performing Arts department at Bakersfield College. Seen in his photo here are his amazing partner and his incredible kid!

Currently, she is sitting on the couch, filling out this form :p  But seriously, most of her time now is spent taking care of her son (he’s 9 going on 15), her hubby, her household, her cats, and her reptile business (breeds snakes, mainly ball pythons for now). She is still in Southern California and not planning to leave anytime soon.

Michele is entering her 6th year as an Academic Coach in Helix’s Academic Support department. In January of ‘23 she will finish her MFA in Poetry and hopefully move on to teach at Grossmont College. She is proud to now share the title of Highland Players Alumni with her daughter, Amavi, who was c/o ‘22.

After college, Delaney joined the IATSE union and went on tour with several different Broadway shows. During the shut down, Delaney reevaluated and decided to transfer IATSE card to the San Diego local and take a break from touring and mostly works shows at the Playhouse, the Shell, and the Globe.

Sara recently moved back to San Diego after living in South Carolina for almost 5 years. She is currently working as a Speech-Language Pathologist in the pediatric home health setting. She still loves the arts, loves to sing, loves to write, and holds very fond memories of Helix drama & speech.

Alex is a rising sophomore at Occidental College studying Biology for Pre-Med, and Art History. She is playing for the Women's Water Polo Team and doing Biochemistry research. She hopes to one day be an MD specializing in Women’s Health.

Nathan Nightingale

Nathan currently lives in Savannah, Georgia on a state park which his wife Gretchen manages. He joined the US Marines after high school where he learned surveying and military engineering, and was discharged in 2012. He currently works as a Land Surveying Crew Chief at Atlas Surveying and is working towards earning a professional license. His hobbies include roller derby, blacksmithing, colonial life reenactments, brewing beer, and gardening.

After some time on the East Coast and in Sacramento, Nick works in San Diego as an attorney, mostly representing local water agencies. Nick lives with his husband Adam and dog Penny in Rolando Village, and continues to have a love of theatre, sci-fi and burritos. Some things don’t change.

After Graduation, Nick pursued an art degree, starting off at Grossmont College before transferring to California State University Long Beach and graduated in 2020 with a BFA in Animation. He still resides in San Diego, making as much art and animation as he can and letting his wacky and creative mind run wild.

Chase is an English major at San Diego State, where he is the president of The Show, SDSU's student section at sporting events. Chase will be the Offensive Coordinator for the JV football team at Helix. He hopes to follow in the footsteps of so many of his family with a career in Education, hoping to teach English and coach football at the high school level.

Dominique is serving in the United States Navy as Engineman Chief Petty Officer (E-7) for 10 years. Leads engineers onboard ships in training, maintenance, and operations. Married to wife Bianca, with 2 year old daughter Emma, and newborn son Peter.

Gregory works in Los Angeles as an actor, writer, and producer. He has appeared in numerous television shows, movies, and commercials, most recently NCIS: Los Angeles. He will appear next in the upcoming film Rich Interior Lives. His script Throw Like A Girl, based on his short film of the same name (some of which was filmed at Helix), was recently picked up by Undaunted Content. With any luck the movie will soon be coming to a theater near you.

Rachael joined the Highland Players for an unusual reason: to get rid of stage fright! At the time, she wanted to be a teacher and figured not being afraid to talk to a crowd would help. Long story short, teaching was not their path, but she has held a variety of jobs related to education and communication on that journey. Currently Rachael is a graduate student at U of Washington, Seattle, for Speech and Language Pathology. Reach out if you're interested in the field!

Jessica currently works at the Trader Joe’s in La Mesa. She met the love of her life (Chrissy) 12 years ago in a show at Coronado Playhouse. They were married in 2016 on the same stage they met on.

Janine took Theatre at Helix and participated in several shows as talent as well as crew. She went on to study Theatre at Grossmont College where she earned her Associates Degree in Performing Arts. She has since done background work for multiple television series in San Diego and Los Angeles. To this day she is continuing to work on her craft and pursue her dream of acting professionally.

On a beautiful island in the Pacific Northwest, Dianna enjoys working as a Speech-Language Pathologist. For applause, she also frequents her local community theater stage. Still living that playhouse dream! When not onstage, she and her lovely husband stay busy with track meets, soccer games, and poodles.
